DoD Evaluates ASSIST-SPECtacle® Interface

By DSPAO | July 14, 2018

In support of a Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) funded Research and Development project, the Defense Standardization Program (DSP) seeks your assistance in evaluating the prototype of a new capability to link defense standardization documents archived in ASSIST with digital documents available in SPECtacle®.  The interface is available to only ASSIST Common Access Card (CAC) users from July 5 until September 4, 2018.  Please visit ASSIST and click "New Features" to learn more about this project and how you can evaluate this capability.  Once you have experience using the interface, please provide us with feedback by completing the ASSIST-SPECtacle® Interface Survey (click here).

Success with Standardization
The following case studies are examples of the ingenuity and effort that the defense standardization community put in to develop and use common specifications and standards to provide support to the warfighter.

  • Body Armor Test Methods Standardization Program
This case study describes a joint effort by the U.S. Army, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to harmonize the test method standards and related standards applied to ballistic-resistant protective gear, such as helmets and vests.

  • Common Parts Catalog for Industry Shipyards
See how four industry shipyards and the Navy collaborated to develop a Common Parts Catalog (CPC) tool to promote parts standardization and management through data sharing to dramatically reduce inventory, design, engineering, and life-cycle costs across the U.S. marine industry.
