SD-22 DoD DMSMS Guidebook Now Available

By | May 31, 2022

A new version of the SD-22, DoD DMSMS Guidebook, is now available! As noted in the foreword, there are two significant changes from the 2021 version.

The first principal change modifies DMSMS resolution types. The resolution formerly called “development of a new item or source” is split into three categories (development of a new source, design refreshment, and redevelop the item) to reflect specific situations better.

The second principal change incorporates additional best practices on interfaces among the people involved in DMSMS management, product (improvement and supportability) roadmaps, technology roadmaps, and programming and budgeting for modifications reflected by technology refreshment and technology insertion to the system.

Success with Standardization
The following case studies are examples of the ingenuity and effort that the defense standardization community put in to develop and use common specifications and standards to provide support to the warfighter.

  • Permeation Testing for Low-Volatility Substances
The LVAP test method and fixture enable such testing for contact hazards, and this is now endorsed as a DoD Test and Evaluation standard.

  • NAVSEA Test Equipment Standardization
This study describes how the standardization efforts of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) program have dramatically reduced the variety of test equipment, while driving down procurement, logistics support, maintenance, and calibration costs through modernization.

  • Joint Committee on Tactical Shelters (JOCOTAS)
This study describes the efforts of the Joint Committee on Tactical Shelters (JOCOTAS) to standardize tactical shelters across all four armed services and how those actions have reduced the types of shelters the Department of Defense (DoD) uses.
