Commercial Item Descriptions

Q: The General Services Administration (GSA) canceled a CID that my activity needs for procurement. What can I do?
A: First, you should contact GSA and ask if they would reinstate the CID. If not, GSA will normally grant permission for DoD to reinstate the CID following the reinstatement procedures described in Enclosure 7 of DoD 4120.24 M, Defense Standardization Program Procedures.

Q: Can a commercial item description (CID) be the implementing document for an international standardization agreement?
A: Yes. Make sure you identify the applicable international standardization agreements which the CID implements in the notes section of the CID using the standard paragraph found in Chapter 5 of the Federal Standardization Manual published by GSA.
